The Importance of Culture & Engagement in the "New Organizations" -

Organizational Structure

Organizations are struggling to find new organizational structures that will help them transform information technology into a competitive advantage. One alternative that is becoming increasingly prevalent is the virtual corporation, which is a network of independent companies (suppliers, customers, and even competitors) linked by information technology to share skills, costs, and access to one another’s markets. This network structure allows companies to come together quickly to exploit rapidly changing opportunities.

All this is fair & nice. What is still important is the concept of team working even in the virtual world.

To improve organizational performance and achieve long-term objectives, we see that many organizations want to re-engineer their business processes or adopt new technologies that open up a variety of organizational design options, such as virtual corporations and virtual teams.

skill sets of employees

The key challenges that require to be addressed would be to select employees based on the answers to the following questions.

This will help in providing an effective solution to the emerging skill sets of employees

1) Do you think you would be more interested in climbing higher in an organization or being a middle-management bridge between the employees who do the work and the executives who set the strategy?

2) As a manager, what do you do with employees who are talented but unapproachable?

3) Can you think of information that a manager would want to disseminate through the grapevine?

4) Do you think companies that outsource will inevitably become virtual corporations? Why or why not?

5) Should all employees in the hierarchy be allowed to work in a virtual environment, or should there be limits?

6) Have you ever worked on a team with an under performing member, such as a slacker, a complainer, or a critic?

Answers to the above questions help HR & the employees to force & spend considerable time developing relationships.

Isn't it?

As one employee described it, instead of trying to please just one “boss,” you have to please everyone.
