Resume is like the icing on top of the cake for your cover letter

The purpose of a cover letter is to catch the hiring manager’s attention. Use the information in this article to assist you in writing your own.

Cover letter writing is almost as critical as resume writing part for job seekers to understand. As the primary supporting document, the cover letter always goes with the resume. This should always be submitted with the resume, whether you send it via regular mail, email, fax, or some other method of electronic submission. Of course, there are other resources you will require while looking for work.

Follow-up emails, thank-you letters for after the interview, reference sheets, pay histories, and job acceptance letters all come after your cover letter and resume, of course. Your only requirement is to know how to write a good resume and a decent cover letter.

Just as with resume writing, the aim is to catch the attention of the hiring manager. However, the process and format are somewhat different. Your resume will be one or two pages long and will include all or most of your professional experience. Your cover letter will be one page long and will serve as an introduction to your resume. The writing style of a cover letter should be direct, to the point, and able to quickly capture the reader’s attention in order to entice them to read the attached resume.

When it comes to this style of writing, many people tend to say too much. Good cover letter writing is succinct and to-the-point, highlighting two or three key points from the resume. In both resume and cover letter writing, the adage “tell them what you’re going to tell them, then tell them what you told them” holds true.

Let's assume you are a material handling manager for a defense contractor looking for a new opportunity. MRP, lean manufacturing, ISO 9000, and cost efficiency are all buzzwords in your industry.

To demonstrate your worth to your current and potential employers, your writing efforts should include these buzz words. Your resume will go into greater detail on how you met these objectives.

The aim of the cover letter is to inform the hiring manager that you have completed them. Two bulleted paragraphs in the body of the message, for example, might say:

1) Quality assurance and quality management, MRP, ISO 9000, QS 9000, and Lean Manufacturing are all areas in which I have worked.

2) Demonstrated cost savings, inventory reductions, and on-time supplier delivery, resulting in substantial savings for employers.

The hiring manager, according to the survey, spends only fifteen seconds on each resume and cover letter that he or she is reviewing. By keeping this in mind you should write your resume in such a way that it forces the viewer to look at your resume. Your resume writing skills need to be just as good to get the reader to want to grant you an interview. In turn, your interviewing skills need to be excellent to get the hiring manager to offer you the position. This will increase your chances of getting a good and satisfied job.
